Monohan elaborates this by adding that "injury" shall be taken to mean physical injury; that the notion of "threat" is included so that the definition will encompass armed robbery or other situations in which injury is threatened but not accomplished; and that the notion "likely" is included so that shooting at someone will be considered violent even if the bullets miss. 3 Unfortunately, this definition implicitly excludes violence to one's self, such as self-mutilation and suicide.
